The In Arts Coalition was first developed to promote local artists in the Atlanta metroplex and would sometimes coordinate with local galleries to create exhibitions of art in the district in and about the Midtown Mile area of Atlanta.
When we discovered a run down warehouse just off the Midtown Mile that offered an affordable rental price, we saw it as an opportunity to create an “industrial chic” gallery space that we could hold exhibitions in, year in and year out!
This is the genesis of how we met a fabulous Atlanta company Atlanta Mold & Cleaning (atlantamoldandcleaning.com) and it would literally turn out that they saved the day for us!
How It Happened
With the landlord’s permission, we tore the crummy old drop ceiling out of the warehouse and along with a fresh, industrial, battleship gray paint job on the floor and the installation of modern, hanging lighting, created a very open and artistic place out of that warehouse.
Now, we were ready to contact all of the fancy traveling art exhibitions we had been keeping track of for a year and see if we could get them booked.
To properly flavor our grand opening, we sought to aim high and attempt to get some famous European art in there first to help get The In Arts Coalition properly branded as a force of art to be reckoned with in Atlanta.
Thus, we found an extension of the Smithsonian that was willing to meet with us, look over our new space and negotiate a booking. At the time, we had no idea that we would soon be online checking out www.atlantamoldandcleaning.com.
The Inspection
Unfortunately for us, our first mold inspection was not conducted by www.atlantamoldandcleaning.com. It was instead performed by the representative of the museum.
Yes, as we showed her around our newly created space, she whipped out a device that looked like a smart phone and clicked it in the air. It turned out to be a laser particle counter. We were astonished to hear her say: “I’m afraid your gallery has an unacceptable amount of foreign material in the air!”
She then took out a tiny, LED flashlight which emitted ultraviolet light. “Look, see this?” she said shining the light on the wall. It was glowing with an eerie yellow fluorescence. “It’s mold!” she exclaimed. “We can’t be bringing any Renoirs’ or Matisse’s in here under these conditions!”
We tried to explain to her that it was probably only from tearing out that old drop ceiling but the cause was not the issue. It was the lingering conditions.
“You’re going to need professional mold remediation by a certified business,” she said, “and then we will be happy to come visit you again.” This is when we went to Google and did some research to find the best mold company in Atlanta and discovered www.atlantamoldandcleaning.com.
The Remediation
So, after we visited www.atlantamoldandcleaning.com and made an appointment with the company, they explained the process to us. The active mold, which is microscopic, (you can’t see it) all needed to be killed.
They looked at the air handler on the air conditioning system, the filter and performed some comprehensive tests. All the mold spores, dead or alive ultimately needed to be cleaned out and then a method to prevent any new mold from forming would need to be put into place.
We were becoming quite concerned whether our relatively small art company was going to be able to afford all of this, but the good folks at www.atlantamoldandcleaning.com provided us with a total estimate ahead of time that fit well within our budget. They advised us that we would have to be deprived of our space for about two or three days for them to get everything done. We could live with that!
The Celebration
Atlanta Mold & Cleaning returned us a sparkling clean warehouse space completely free of mold. They upgraded our air filtration with a HEPA filter system and their associates added an ultraviolet light purifying stage to our air handler.
We were very glad we had contacted www.atlantamoldandcleaning.com because it really turned out to be a great choice. When the lady from the museum returned, we got a raving review and a certified bill of good health!
We are now booking our 2018 showing of both great local artists in Atlanta and some of the best traveling art you will see from Europe right here in Atlanta. We owe it all to www.atlantamoldandcleaning.com for the outstanding job they did!
